About the photo: I took this during fieldwork in Kiribati, a small country of low-lying islands near the date line and the equator (central Pacific). Several themes emerge in this picture that we will follow up on: coral reef health; rising sea level; climate variability (El Niño is very important here); the inequities inherent in climate impacts and the challenges of adaptation. Note the island is visible in the middle of the picture; that's as high as it gets.
