Welcome!
Welcome to Global Change!
We'll use this class blog to highlight particularly interesting stories about global change. And, if you attend a global change-related event on campus, you can blog about it here for extra credit (see these guidelines for full details).
Several websites aggregate environmental news stories and will send you a daily email with links to the latest. Here are a couple:
The National Council for Science and the Environment: http://news.ncseonline.org/news/
Grist - an online environmental news source: http://grist.org
About the photo: I took this during fieldwork in Kiribati, a small country of low-lying islands near the date line and the equator (central Pacific). Several themes emerge in this picture that we will follow up on: coral reef health; rising sea level; climate variability (El NiƱo is very important here); the inequities inherent in climate impacts and the challenges of adaptation. Note the island is visible in the middle of the picture; that's as high as it gets.
